Cork TD Christopher O'Sullivan confirmed the move today following discussions with the Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys.
The iconic cable car, which is run by Cork County Council, will close to allow safety upgrade works to take place.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cork TD Christopher O'Sullivan says it's hoped the work will be completed before October:
"They've invoked this emergency procurement process whereby they shortcut a lot of the normal procurement procedures so that they can procure the big towers that will be necessary to hold the cable car in place. So, hopefully all going well it actually might be before October but as you well know with the way construction is going, the cost of construction and supply lines- nothing is guaranteed."
