A Number Of Public Meetings Are Being Held In West Cork Over The Next 2 Days

It's in a bid to prevent any potential downgrading of Bantry General Hospital

This follows the launch of a petition at the start of the year as doctors in the area along with the local community joined forces amid fears that the hospital could it's acute status.

The HSE say there are no plans to downgrade Bantry to a model 2 hospital but doctors have described that statement as a "fudge" and say lives will be lost in West Cork if the hospital is downgraded.

The Save Bantry Hospital Group are to meet the HSE next month and in the meantime are hosting public meetings at the West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen tomorrow at 7.30pm and at the Maritime Hotel in Bantry on Friday night at the same time.

Speaking to RedFM News Dr Gietta Wieneke of the Bantry based Marino Medical centre says there's widespread concern for the local hospital:
