On Tuesday, a man in his early 20s was stabbed a number of times at Pearse Square in Ballyphehane
He remains in a stable condition at Cork University Hospital following surgery.
The man in his 40s was arrested yesterday afternoon but was released by evening.
A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
