Tatiana Vagramenko is originally from Crimea and started her first day at the University's Study of Religions Department today where she is working on a project about the KGB and the religious underground in Soviet Ukraine.
Her parents and sister live in Crimea and are trying to flee the country, however they are finding it increasingly difficult as they have to cross the front line of the war.
Tatiana also has family in the capital Kyiv and other areas of the country and is in daily contact with them.
Speaking to RedFM News Tatiana outlines how she starts every day and says her family in Kyiv are spending nights underground due to Russian bombing raids:
"My morning begins with ringing, texting them all just to find out how they survived the night. At the moment, down where I'm from, where my parents live there is no war but the front line is really close. My relatives in Kyiv have already slept underground for six nights in the Metro for example or in an underground carpark- this is when the siren goes off- then they have to find shelter. At the moment, the Metro and underground parking is their home."
