Dropping your speed on motorways can save fuel by as much as 30 per cent, according to the AA.
It comes as prices for premium diesel products exceed 2 euro at the pumps.
Gardai have also been warning about expected increases in 'drive-offs' as prices go up.
Head of Communications at the AA, Paddy Comyn, says slowing down can help, especially on a motorway
"If you can safely reduce your speed to 100 or 110kmh versus 120kmh an hour you will save some fuel. We have demonstrated that ourselves - we have had savings of up to 30% by driving at 100 km/hr obviously in the left hand side lane"
