The Duhallow region of North Cork is one of the areas which has seen a large influx of Ukrainian refugees.

IRD Duhallow is coordinating the community volunteer efforts in Banteer and Millstreet.

The Manager of IRD Duhallow, Maura Walsh, told RedFM News that the 46 refugees who arrived at a community centre in Banteer, which is being used as a Temporary Reception Centre, have now been brought to hotels throughout Kerry, as the village awaits further new arrivals.

She says that accommodation for refugees in the Green Glens Arena in Millstreet is more permanent.

Currently, there are 68 people staying in the the centre at the Green Glens - including 18 children, one as young as 6-months of age.

Speaking to RedFM News, Maura describes the permanent living pods which have been erected in the arena in Millstreet:

"Millstreet is more permanent. In Millstreet you have, what are called, pods. You have the actual front door, which is a closed door; it's not, you know, it's not open space. So you get in your front door, you have like a hallway/entrance area. Then at the other side of it, you have your dining room table, four chairs. You have two bedrooms off. The other bedrooms are curtains, but they're heavy curtains. You could have your kid right beside. So, you have two single beds in each room, two lockers, wardrobe, so it's not quite hotel, but it's not far off".
