ALONE is calling on local election candidates in Cork to transform communities for the older population
Cork has the second largest population aged 60+ in the country with 21% of people aged over
The organisation wants to see more action from councils on housing and loneliness
Speaking to RedFM news, Grainne Loughran from ALONE says local amenities and opportunities need to be available for todays older generations and for the future:
"The challenge and the opportunity with older people in Ireland is that the population is only going up in the coming years. So we really need to develop our services. We need to develop our local communities and local opportunities to ensure that they're available to older people, not just now but in the years to come".
