The amount of funding allocated to storm damaged roads across Cork county has been slammed.

Damage to roads and bridges in East Cork caused by Storm Babet stands at an estimated €50m but just €13m has been granted to carry out repairs.

County Council Chief Executive Valerie O'Sullivan has described the allocation as "disappointing" and says it will result in the county road network deteriorating further instead of improving.

The details of the funding were unveiled as the Public Expenditure Minister told RedFM News that the Government will support the Council to restore damaged roads:

"We have a long tradition of working with councils to help them restore damage that his been done due to flood relief, and we will do the same for Cork County Council."
