Gardaí say the alleged assault of a 9 year old boy happened shortly before 2pm on Pearse Street in Clonakilty.
A man in his 70s was arrested at the scene and taken to Bandon Garda Station.
He has since been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the DPP.
