An Taisce's charity programme 'Clean Coasts' encourages people to commit to a very simple, eco-friendly resolution this New Year.
Speaking to RedFM News, Clean Coast's Coastal Community Manager, Sinéad McCoy says that the programme has caught fire here.
They are urging people to spend 2 minutes a day (or whenever they can) cleaning their local beach - to protect the Irish coast and waterways.
The initiative aims to help people to be greener and more environmentally friendly in 2022.
People can find out more on CleanCoasts.Org, where they can also apply for a free beach cleaning kit.
Speaking to RedFM News, Sinéad McCoy says that Mark McCarthy from Skull is a prime example of how local people can make a huge difference:
"At the end of every year, we celebrate our Ocean Heroes, and this year we had a #TwoMinuteBeachClean Leader Category. And that's because, in the past number of years, with all the lockdowns and everything, we have fun the #TwoMinuteBeachClean has really caught fire here in Ireland. Like, a lot of people have kind of taken it up. Mark, down in Skull, has been one of those incredible leaders for the #TwoMinuteBeachClean. Hopefully, a lot more people from Cork will take it on again next year and there'll be loads more #TwoMinuteBeachClean leaders in the community."
