Locals and business owners in Bantry will breathe a sigh of relief when flood defence works in Bantry are completed.
That's according to Cllr Danny Collins who was speaking after the OPW announced that an application for flood defence works in the town was approved.
€82,000 in funding for interim works was also approved bringing the total to almost €184,000.
Bantry has been one of the worst hit towns in terms of flooding in recent years, with business owners in the town saying they now expect to be flooded at least twice a year.
Speaking to RedFM News, local Councillor and business owner Danny Collins says traders need immediate action.
"Most businesses in Bantry can't get insurance because of flooding.
"There's no real funding out there afterwards if a business does get flooded.
"We want to works being done, shovels in the ground because as I've stated before, people are living in fear when there's a storm alert, or high tides."
