The army bomb squad was called to a farm in West Cork yesterday.
Former broadcaster Fergal Keane was renovating an old shed when he came across around 180 sticks of gelignite.
The ordinance disposal unit carried out three large explosions to dispose of the dynamite which is said to date back to the time of the War of Independence.
