The college says the award is in recognition of the role the Clonakilty native's work plays in bringing problematic issues to the fore in contemporary discourse.
Her second book 'Asking For It', became a bestseller and earned Louise several awards for her examination of issues such as rape culture, social media, and victim-blaming
Speaking to RedFM News, Louise says it's an honour to be recognised by UCC:
"When they first contacted me about it, the imposter syndrome was very strong. I was very tempted to reply and say have you got the wrong person? When I first started writing, I started writing my first book and when I was 27. And you know, I think in those early days I had no idea if the book was any good, I had no idea if it would ever get published. I think it would have been beyond my wildest dream to imagine that at some point in the future, that UCC will be giving me an honorary doctorate. It's mind blowing- I'm so thrilled."
