Business closures are a national problem, not a Bandon problem.
That's according to the Bandon Business Association who say the negative narrative that has emerged about the West Cork town following years of disruption due to ongoing flood relief and drainage works is not representative of what's happening in the town.
Concerns had been expressed that COVID19 would be the final nail in the coffin for many traders who had previously expressed concern about declining footfall due to road closures, diversions, lack of parking and issues surrounding traffic management plans, however public support has been strong since the town reopened.
Traders say the community are continuing to shop local in a bid to ensure the survival of the town, and while there have been casualties with some businesses shutting their doors, it's a problem being experienced by every town in the country.
Speaking to RedFM News Chairperson of the Bandon Business Association Hillary O'Farrell says there's a narrative that 'Bandon is dying' which is dangerous and simply untrue, and the works will help the town to prosper long terms as is the case in other West Cork towns - press PLAY
