The green light has been given for waste water upgrades in Belgooly.
The project which was given the go ahead by Irish Water means that it will provide more capacity for the development of new homes in the area and ensure wastewater is treated properly.
Residents of Riverbank estate in Belgooly had to mount a public campaign to get work on the treatment of waste water as they were living with foul smells emitting from the plant in their estate.
The upgrade means the foul smells will be a thing of the past as the project will amalgamate and consolidate existing wastewater treatment infrastructure in the Belgooey area into a single treatment plant with capacity to cater for the existing development and projected growth.
