A Cork campaigner with Better Maternity Care is urging Cork University Matrenity Hospital to comply with the national guidelines around emergency presentations for pregnant women.
Linda Kelly was speaking after the hospital announced a change to it's visitor rules which from today will see partners allowed to attend early pregnancy scans, the 12 week scan, the anatomy scan and when the patient is in labour.
They're also allowed stay in the post delivery ward with the mother for an hour, while visiting is not restricted from 7am to 11pm daily.
Both parents can freely attend the neo-natal unit seperately, and the high dependency unit has no restrictions.
Speaking to RedFM News Linda Kelly of Better Maternity Care says while she welcomes the changes she looks forward to seeing them moving forward on the restrictions around emergency presentations.
"Well emergency presentations are listed specifically in the national guidelines, but we know from women contacting us that CUMH as a matter of course does not allow partners into the emergency room.
"That is a huge issue for people because that is one of the most distressing visits you will make to the hospital."
