There is a big effort across the city and county to allow Ukrainian child refugees to continue their education.

That's according to the Manager of IRD Duhallow, Maura Walsh.

She says Cork ETB is coordinating the educational response to the new arrivals from Ukraine.

Thousands of Ukrainian students are expected to register in Irish schools from tomorrow.

Education officials estimate there are around 25-thousand places available at primary level - and around 18-thousand at secondary level.

The Duhallow region of North Cork has seen a large influx of Ukrainian refugees in recent days.

Speaking to RedFM News, Maura says all Ukrainian refugees can get English lessons, even if they don't speak the language at all:

"Cork ETB are doing a fantastic job. They are not only coordinating the secondary schools and ETB schools, but all the other secondary and primary schools as well. And they're setting in any kids that need to be settled in, and they're organising for the others to be able to study from where they are. The older ones, they will still be looking at having their own curriculum and doing it online. They can still finish out their equivalent of our Leaving Cert. The ETB: they are providing English language classes for people coming in at various levels".
