A Blackpool based GP says the issue of discoloured water in the city needs to be addressed urgently.

Residents on the northside of the city say they've been dealing with brown water for nearly 2 years and some have been spending up to €120 a month on bottled water.

Parents have long been raising their concerns about the safety of the water for their children with some claiming they have developed skin rashes as a result of bathing in the water

Speaking to RedFM News Blackpool GP Dr John Sheehan says having clean, safe water is a basic human right:

"If you have children, particularly young children, their health is your first priority. And if you've discoloured water coming out of the tap, you're not sure if you can use it for cooking, for cleaning, for feeding all the usual things  on a day to day basis, even washing clothes. Irish Water keeps saying that the water is safe. You want a clean,  safe water supply. That's a basic human right"
