A book of condolences has opened at City Hall for the ten people who lost their lives in Friday’s explosion in Creeslough in County Donegal.
Lord Mayor Cllr Deirdre Ford opened the book at midday for the three children and seven adults who died three days ago.
An investigation into what destroyed the petrol station and a nearby apartment building is still underway, however it’s believed a gas leak may have been the cause of the tragedy.
Speaking to RedFM News, Lord Mayor Cllr Deirdre Ford says her thoughts are with the people of Creeslough:
"You know, it's testimony, how people are so sympathetic to this dreadful tragedy. And of course, we're coming to terms on behalf of the family and the people in Donegal. And I think if it will stand for them and time to come to know that we're all sending out our thoughts and prayers to them, even as far as the Pope himself which I feel will be greatly appreciated."
James Scanlan from Midleton was at City Hall to sign the book of condolences...
He told RedFM News why he came to the city today:
"I know Creeslough myself and it's such a small community. I come from a small community and, you know, one is very badly affected. So it's the least that we can do to come along and show our sympathy, which is very little, but those people are going to go through an awful lot . And, you know, we just have to pray for them."
