A Garda is in critical condition at Cork University Hospital tonight following an incident on the N25 Cork to Waterford road outside Youghal.
The Garda was assisting a broken down vehicle on the N25 at the Youghal bypass shortly before 7pm when the unmarked patrol car he was travelling in was hit by another vehicle.
In a statement to RedFM News, Garda Press say the Garda suffered serious injuries and was taken to Cork University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The N25 at the Youghal bypass is currently closed and the scene is being preserved for a full technical examination. Local diversions are in place.
