A landmark Supreme Court ruling ensuring victims of sexual violence cannot be quizzed on their sexual history has been welcomed by the Sexual Violence Centre Cork

The ruling means alleged victims of sexual violence are entitled to be protected from enquiries before and during a trial into their past sexual experience

Mary Crilly of the Sexual Violence Centre Cork has long been campaigning against such questioning as she says it can be used to discredit a victim

Speaking to RedFM News she has described the ruling as one of the most important pieces of legislation to be introduced to make the justice system more victim centred

"This is huge. This really is huge and is  really going to help so many victims who won't have to worry about their past sexual history being admitted. It should  have been done years ago, but it is now andreally welcome it hugely more than any other decision I'd say over the past few years, really welcome this one"
