The move comes just weeks after teenager Jack O'Sullivan lost his life while swimming in the area
On foot of his death the Council was again urged to examine the possibility of the introduction of a lock or card system activated at the gate of the pontoon
Speaking to RedFM News local Councillor Seamus McGrath says the new access measures will be implemented within the coming days
"The Council has confirmed that they will be implementing access control measures on the gate on the pontoon. And look, that's something I welcome. I think that's better for everyone involved. I know nearby residents were certainly asking for that, due to issues of noise. So I think overall it's a welcome move and we got confirmation at our meeting recently that this will be implemented within a matter of days"
