Bus Eireann says the Bus Connects project is key to solving issues facing bus services in Cork.
Increased traffic congestion and poor driver recruitment have been identified as key challenges facing the service.
52 complaints were made to the authority in the first three months of the year regarding Cork services, according to the National Transport Authority.
Aled Williams from Bus Eireann says the project will reduce traffic and increase passenger intake:
"So the bus connects project that's been led by the National Transport Authority., that's due to mobilize in the next couple of years in the city. I think that is absolutely key towards reducing the number of cars in the city and increasing our passenger numbers across the city and ultimately reducing the amount of traffic that is entering Cork city itself"
