Business owners in the city say the level of anti-social behaviour is negatively impacting trade.

Shop and cafés in the city say they are already seeing an increase in footfall with summer tourists but that it’s dampened by the number of drunk people on the street.

It’s been announced that 6 additional Gardaí will be on the beat on Cork city’s streets during the day for the summer months.

Eileen Domiati of Dulce Bun House on Oliver Plunkett Street says they have to police their premises to protect their customers' experience:

"A lot of people are disturbed on what they're seeing on the streets, where we have to ask people to move on, stop the begging and bothering customers who are sitting down. Now it's not jsut that they're intoxicated, they're now shouting on Oliver Plunkett Street, from one end to the other."
