There are growing calls for the government to re-focus national aviation policy on Cork Airport - so that it can work in tandem with Dublin Airport.
CEO of Cork Chamber, Conor Healy, says they are concerned about the dominance of Dublin Airport on Ireland’s aviation industry.
In recent weeks, thousands of passengers travelling through Dublin Airport have experienced long delays and queues with many missing their flights due to staff shortages.
The delays led to calls for routes to be transferred to the regional airports in order to ease the pressure on Dublin.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cork Chamber's Conor Healy says this is a huge opportunity for Cork Airport.
"There's an opportunity now to refocus our national policy in terms of aviation.
"Dublin Airport is as really important airport for the country is a major hub and a global airport but has become too predominant in the context of Irish aviation, and that's not necessarily good for the economy as a whole.
"If you look at Cork Airport, where we have significant capacity available, a relatively new airport with infrastructure in place, many routes and many of those airlines could in fact have operations operating out of Cork as well as Dublin."
