There's a call on the Road Safety Authority to change the system for NCT appointments.
Cork East TD James O'Connor is making the call, due to the length of time drivers are waiting to book their test.
He says there are no appointments available in Little Island until January 22nd, Blarney until February 3rd and Waterford City until February 9th.
Deputy O'Connor says he wants the system changed as the backlog isn't good enough:
"To be frank, it's to deal with the mess that is there at the moment in relation to the backlog of appointments. What we saw this week within the Transport Committee was absolutely and totally and utterly unacceptable from the RSA's point of view, when it comes to the enormous backlog in order for cars to get NCTs. I'll use my hometown of Youghal in East Cork as an example. In Youghal the earliest appointment [if booking now] in October is actually available in April".
