Calls have been made for the introduction of a rapid transport system in Cork in the wake of cut backs to some city bus services.
A revised timetable on the 202/202a, 205, 208 and 220 will be in place from October 20th due to a shortage of drivers despite an intensive recruitment campaign.
Bus Éireann says the changes are being made to 'improve punctuality and service delivery for passengers'.
Dermot O'Leary of the National Bus and Rail Union says Cork's traffic congestion needs to be urgently tackled to allow the free movement of buses:
"You have traffic gridlock all over from from the Airport Hill, down Forge Hill, Glanmire. Look at the bus gate priority from Parliament Bridge in across the South Mall, Grand Parade, Patrick's Street, Washington Street junction, you know the amount of buses stuck in traffic around there, that's an indictment not on Bus Eireann, not on the trade unions, but certainly on those that run local authorities and transport infrastructure."
