Calls are being made for plans for a relief road in Charleville to be re-examined in the wake of the deaths of two people in the town in the past fortnight.
Margaret Lyons died last Monday afternoon, while Pat Galvin died at the end of April.
Both were hit by a lorry on the town's Main Street.
Their deaths have prompted fresh calls for new safety measures to be introduced on the Main Street including the upgrading of the five pedestrian crossings in the town.
Speaking to RedFM News Local Councillor Ian Doyle says it's now clear that the town needs a relief road:
"There's been a huge emphasis on the M20, which is the Cork to Limerick motorway. There is speed and definitely an emphasis on that. But with the best will in the world, that's not going to happen within the next 10 to 15 or 20 years. And that is no help to the town of Charleville. But there is, in out County Development Plan a relief road that's pencilled in, and I'm calling for Cork County Council and the TII to ignite that again and look at the possibility of that relief road being put into place".
