The danger of sunbeds has been raised in the Seanad.

It comes after a new study by Cork dermatologists found around half of people use tanning beds despite knowing the risks.

Cork Senator Tim Lombard who lost his brother to skin cancer - the most common form of cancer in Ireland - raised the issue in the Seanad

Speaking to RedFM News, Tomasz Wendorf  who owns Sun Studio Tan and Nail Clinic on Popes Quay believes using sun beds in moderation isn't harmful for the skin:

"What we recommend we recommend, always, when we have a new customer - we always try to find out, did the person usesun bed before, what type of skin that person has, does the person burn easily under the natural sun - from the age of eighteen plus, you pretty much know that and what kind of skin you have. So then we advise how many minutes - always use the minimum minutes, which would be in our business five minutes on the very light bed"
