Calls have been made for a full review of how the cold snap in North Cork was handled from the Met Éireann alerts to the response by the State Agencies.

Towns and villages across the northern part of the county were amongst the worst hit over the last week as thick snow fell which led to people being trapped in their homes for a number of days.

The situation was compounded for many as the artic freeze led to thousands being left without power or water.

Speaking to RedFM News Local Fianna Fail TD Michael Moynihan says he believes a Red Alert for snow should have been issued for North Cork:

It is and it was a Red event because of the severity and the level of snow in our own area, like you were talking about 15, 16,17 inches of snow. It has to be honed better to show exactly what is the likely forecasting, and could it have been signaled better."
