Calls have been made for the redevelopment of the Dulux paint manufacturing plant on the Commons Road.
It comes as the parent company announced it's decision to shut the plant by the end of the year with the loss of 45 jobs.
The closure of the manufacturing plant comes 140 years after it first opened in Blackpool.
Most of the site’s current manufacturing volumes will be moved to the UK which will supply Dulux paint for the Irish market.
In a statement Dulux says the Cork site would need significant investment to renovate and upgrade it in the short term and in the long term a new plant would have to be redeveloped.
Consultations between employee and union representatives are expected to happen in the next few weeks to support the 45 workers being made redundant.
