Car theft in Cork is at a 7 year high.

The Irish Examiner reports that thieves are targeting specific cars imported from Asia as those vehicles are not fitted with an immobiliser.

Gardai are advising owners of cars imported from Asia to fit their steering wheels with a steering lock.

Last month saw the highest number of reported Car thefts since October of 2015, while there has been a 164% increase in car thefts between January and May compared to the same period last year.

156 vehicles were reported stolen in the City division this year, with Asian imports without immobilisers accounting for 30 of those.
