The CEO of CareChoice says he was forced to go to the families of residents of Beaumont Nursing Home after getting no response from the Government or National Treatment Purchase Fund regarding funding for the home.

Stuart Murphy says he was only able to secure one meeting with the fund in the past eight months to discuss the Fair Deal Scheme despite contacting them over 15 times.

Stuart Murphy told RedFM News that CareChoice was forced to withdraw from the scheme due to funding not being increased and says he has made several attempts to organise a meeting with the Tánaiste and the Minister for Older People in the past few days.

Around 40 family members of residents protested outside Micheál Martin’s constituency office yesterday to call on the government to engage with the home.

Eoin Horgan’s wife Madeleine is a resident and he told RedFM News that it has been a very stressful time for families.

"I'm 90 years of age, and I find it very difficult now to look after myself, let alone my wife. Beaumont has been a great relief.

"We're very. very upset by this. I wouldn't be able to cope if I had this thing taken away from me. It's like a last resort, if you like, when you part company with your loved one.

"Hopefully everything will be resolved."
