Casual Trading bye-laws in the city look set to be updated for the first time since 1996.

The changes could see fees almost double for some casual traders.

There was a boom in street-side venders, such as coffee trailers, across Cork during the pandemic, when they offered one of the few outdoor food options during the lockdowns.

Tom Douglas has more for RedFM News:

"The City Council is asking the public, as well as traders and other businesses in the city for their opinions on proposed new Casual Trading Bye-Laws.

Fees for casual trading would be increased for the first time since 1996.

The new bye-laws would also update the rules for trading and the criteria for allocating pitches.

At present, the Coal Quay area of Cornmarket Street and Kyle Street is the only officially designated casual trading area in the city.

The proposed new bye-laws would designate new casual trading areas in areas such as Harley Street, Blackrock Village and some local parks.

Public submissions on the proposed new bye-laws can be made up to the 25th March.
