Cork Business Association says it's 'staggering' that plans for a retail village on the outskirts of the city are still going ahead.
The €100 million project was given the green light by Cork County Council after councillors voted overwhelmingly to amend the County Development plan to make way for the development near Carrigtwohill.
CBA have objected to how the amendment was carried out and say the plan, which is expected to create around 850 jobs, should be shelved in light of the fragile state of retail due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking to RedFM News, Lawrence Owens from CBA says the retail village is unnecessary.
"Obviously we've had the closure of Debenhams, the North Main Street centre is completely empty, there's space in Merchant's Quay, there's space in the Savoy Centre, I could go on.
"There's plenty of retail spaces, the entire docklands that needs to be developed, 150 hectares.
"This is just unnecessary, and really should be taken off the agenda from anybody's perspective."
