The centenary of the assassination of former Lord Mayor Tomás Mac Curtain will be marked at a private ceremony in the City.
The Republican Lord Mayor was murdered by the RIC after they broke into his home on Thomas Davis Street in Blackpool 100 years ago today.
MacCurtain had just turned 36 that day and his wife was preganant at the time.
A number of events to commemorate Mac Curtain's life have been impacted by the Covid-19 crisis, however Lord Mayor Cllr John Sheehan and Mac Curtain's granddaughter Fionnuala will lay a wreath on the Republican plot at St Finbarr's Cemetery later today.
