The opportunities and threats facing dairy farmers and their industry will be discussed at the Dairy Day conference in the city today.
Thousands are expected to attend the event at Pairc Ui Chaoimh which includes talks on the latest farming tech and how to encourage the next generation of farmers to get involved.
The reduction of the nitrates derogation continues to dominate discussions around Irish farming.
Speaking to RedFM News dairy farmer Shane Fitzgerald says maintaining good water quality is key to keeping the current derogation
"Ours has dis-improved slightly, but it is stabilising and we're hoping that it will pick back up over the next few years, but if it doesn't we are going to lose a derogation and that means we would be back down from 220 kilos per hectare down to 170 which would be a very low stocking rate for an efficient dairy farm. It would make a lot of dairy farms unviable especially smaller farms. We would be very concerned about that so as farmers we are going to do have to do everything in our power to improve and protect water quality"
