It’s understood a 12-year-old girl injured in an attack on a house in Charleville is making a good recovery following surgery.

She was taken to Cork University Hospital and later transferred to Temple Street children’s Hospital in Dublin with a suspected fractured skull following the incident on Monday night.

Five men in balaclavas attacked the house close to the town’s Main Street and damaged a car and smashed windows at the house.

Speaking to RedFM News Superintendent Gary McPolin outlines how the young girl was injured:

"An instrument broke a pane of glass in the house and a 12 year old child was standing outside the door and received a head injury and was taken from CUH to Temple Street Hospital in Dublin where she underwent an operation. At this moment in time, I think she is making a very good recovery and time will tell if there is any long term consequences but it looks like she will make a full recovery."
