Childcare providers in Cork have began their protest outside the City Hall.

It's part of a demonstration which saw preschool owners close their doors for three days and protest outside the Dail on Wednesday.

The Early Federation of Childhood Providers says businesses in the childcare sector are no longer viable and are calling on the Government to increase the current rate of 69 euro per child per week.

Speaking to RedFM News, Lisa Vaughan who runs Tots and Co. in Carrigaline explains why they’re protesting outside the City Hall today:

"We're at crisis, if we don't do this we're screwed. People are closing left right and centre, we've thought about it ourselves, whats the point you get nowhere. We are vital to the community and we've had parents crying to us on the phone saying they can't get places, and we can't give them places."
