The Children’s Rights Alliance says investment in preschools is crucial when it comes to ending child poverty.

The organisation is calling on the Government to urgently review the childcare sector.

It comes as the north side of the city is in the midst of what's been described as “a pre-school crisis” as the fight to get the Before 5 Centre in Churchfield reopen continues as well as the recent closure of New Horizons on St Mary’s Road.

Speaking to RedFM News, Pól Ó Mhurchú from the Children’s Rights Alliance says Government funding in the sector will improve the lives of struggling children:

"Money spent for early intervention is well spent, if you look at children who are 15,16,17 and out of control who require special care and therepeutic interventions, if the supports and services are put in place in the 0-5 years these children will have a solid base, they will be nurtured. We would ask Roderic O'Gorman as a matter of urgency to look at these creches and see what can be done."
