A city based auctioneer has described the housing market in Cork as buoyant

Kevin Barry owner of Barry Auctioneers was speaking after CSO figures show that the average price of a house in the city now stands at over €300,000.

The latest Residential Property Price index for March shows that the the median price for a house in Cork County is €285,000, up €25,000 from this time last year.

Meanwhile in the City houses are selling for an average of just under €350,000 on the southside, and just over €282,000 on the northside

Speaking to RedFM News Kevin Barry says the pandemic and working from home options has led to a sea change in what people want from their homes in terms of location

"We're seeing people that would have been working in Dublin coming back, because they're now able to work from home.  People's mentality is changing like the box bedroom being turned into a home office,  there just seems to be a different mindset.  A lot has got to do with, just even during COVID, with the lack of houses being built. And at the moment we're seeing so many buyers out there and they're just raring to go"
