Maura O'Riordan from Cork Educate Together National School on Gratton Street says parents and children are being forced to use a poorly signed pedestrian crossing to access the school - she's afraid someone will be seriously hurt if a school traffic warden is not hired for her school.
The school say motorists can be frequently seen speeding on the one-way street to avoid being stopped at the nearby traffic lights, while many others stop their cars on the pedestrian crossing, preventing people from crossly the road freely.

The school on one of the city's main arteries applied for a traffic warden 18 months ago but have been told that there is not enough funding for one.
Speaking to RedFM News, principal Maura O'Riordan says parents and children have had several near misses at the crossing:
"We've had parents who followed cars down Washington Street to alert them to the fact that they've nearly knocked down a child or indeed an adult. The last day we had a parent who spoke with a lady who was straddling a pedestrian crossing and the lady said well I can't move forward, but the light is broken, she actually wasn't even aware she was straddling the pedestrian crossing. Signage is poor, the lights are broken, the volume is huge, and the layout of the road is just not appropriate."
