The Council has been accused of not fully examining all options following their decision to remove commercial buses from Patrick's Quay
West Cork Connects says the move has resulted in the loss of 8 bus bays in the city and means that pick up and drop off points have been scattered across the city
The commercial bus companies are being moved off the quay to make room for cycle lanes which is part of the Council's plans to revamp the MacCurtain Street area.
In a statement the Council says the change will mean shorter bus journey times for all bus passengers in Cork city due to an increased network of dedicated bus lanes and bus priority.
Bus firms will now be operating on Coburg Street, the Lower Glanmire Road and Andersons Quay with passengers now facing a 10/15 minute walk across the city in between the bus arrival and departure times
Damien Long of West Cork Connects told RedFM News that the move will destroy connectivity in Cork city:
"Coburg Street is being changed around as well in the McCurtain Street Project. Coburg Street Street is going to be used for the busses going in the Limerick/Galway direction. Anderson's Quay is going to be used for, we think, the West Cork Connects. Lower Glanmire Road is going to be used for busses going to Dublin direction. So it's just spreading it all around the city. And the problem is 14 Bus Bays were on Patrick's Quay, but they're now only giving six Bus Bays so we're losing 8 bays".
