The city council is appealing to the public to stop putting "gunk" down the drain.
The council says it has had to replace water systems across the city because of the incorrect disposal of waste down drains and toilets.
It says cooking fats, sanitary products, condoms, plastic bags and wet wipes are clogging the city's water system.
The Echo is reporting today that Cork City Council says a system upgrade, estimated to cost over €35,000, is now required to deal with the incorrect disposal of waste.
The council is reminding the public to ‘Only Flush The Three P’s: poo, pee and paper’.
