A number of routes have been blocked by trees including Inchigaggin lane between the Carrigrohane Straight and Model Farm Road, and a section of Maryborough Hill.
There is also reports that part of Douglas Street has been closed due to the risk of falling debris from a building.
There was minor pooling of water in low lying areas of the city this morning however the city centre escaped any significant damage.
Speaking to RedFM News, Director of Services at the City Council David Joyce is appealing to people to check their property for damage:
"We escaped lightly compared to what it could have been but there was some property damage. I'm aware of two buildings that have been damaged and some railings. So there there has been some property damage and we would ask people to check their own properties when they're getting up this morning and make sure that there is no damage to their properties. And to be very careful when you are venturing into town and into properties, opening up your property or your business inside in town because they may be damaged. So it's important that people check for damage to their buildings, because buildings may have been damaged overnight or in the morning."
