The City Council says a super-moon caused the city to flood over the busy Bank Holiday weekend.
The council says the floods were the highest astronomical floods so far this year.
The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival saw 100,000 people in the city over the weekend - with queues outside pubs and restaurants despite flooded streets.
Tides of up to 2.7 meters were recorded throughout the weekend, which flooded Morrison's Island, South Terrace, Oliver Plunket Street and other low lying quays in the city.
Speaking to RedFM News, City Council Engineer David Joyce says extensive damage wasn't done to properties over the weekend:
"Over the weekend, we experienced the highest astronomical floods of the year. There was a super moon and that increased the tide levels even further. We didn't have any rain. We didn't have any wind. So it was purely an astronomical event. The highest tides were on Saturday and Sunday, where we reached 2.7m in the city on Sunday night and 2.68m on Saturday night and that resulted in significant road flooding right across the city centre. There was not extensive damage to buildings or properties or residences".
