City Council has updated its recommendations - saying there is a chance some tidal flooding this evening.
High tide is at 6:59pm and the Council says some roads and parking areas along low-lying quays in the city centre may experience localised flooding and ponding, in particular South Terrace, Sharman Crawford Street, Wandesford Quay and Lavitt’s Quay.
The October Bank Holiday weekend saw streets flooding during high tide resulting in people wading through ankle deep water to get to bars, restaurants and Guinness Cork Jazz Festival events
Speaking to RedFM News, City Council Engineer David Joyce says a super moon spring tide caused the city to flood over the weekend:
"The good news is that from a tidal perspective, the tides are beginning to reduce. So we're coming out of the Super Moon Spring Tides. We are coming in to normal tides again. So the flooding across the city is going to reduce. We're expecting slight ponding tonight across the roads but nothing significant and no major problems this evening from a tidal perspective".
The City Council and the RSA are warning road users to take extreme care during the very heavy rain predicted for the next fews days.
