A Sinn Fein councillor says the city council will be at a disadvantage when the XL Bully ban comes into affect in October.
A ban on the breed was announced following a spate of dog attacks in recent months - including one at a house in Ballyphehane.
Up to 40 dog wardens are to be hired by local councils across the country - but it may not be in place until next year.
Speaking to RedFM news, Cllr Joe Lynch says the ban could be difficult to enforce without the extra warden in the city:
"Hopefully an additional dog warden can be in place before start of next year. The ban that's being introduced on the XL bully is being introduced before then. So actually, you know, it does leave the council at a disadvantage in terms of enforcing that legislation that's due to come in place. But you know, let's hope that for next year, an additional dog warden can be in place."
