The GRA raised concerns that the Protective Services Unit was unable to take on any new cases due to a backlog of cases and lack of trained staff at the end of last year.
The unit deals with crimes such as domestic abuse, human trafficking and sex offender management is staffed by one inspector, two sergeants and 11 Gardaí.
In a statement issued to RedFM News, a Garda spokesperson says its expected the unit will be given two extra sergeants and 9 Gardaí.
