-Gardaí confirm Blackrock Rowing Club were wrongly named in a Garda statement during an inquest at Cork City Coroners Court and have confirmed the club had nothing to do with events outlined during a part of the inquest-

RedFM News was present at and reported on an inquest at Cork City Coroner’s Court on Thursday 21st November.

A portion of the inquest dealt with the recovery of a submerged car from the water off Kennedy Quay in the city.

Details from a Garda statement which mentioned Blackrock Rowing Club were recorded by RedFM News, checked again after the inquest, and included in a report that afternoon.

RedFM News was contacted by Blackrock Rowing Club that afternoon to say the club had no involvement in what was said to have happened on the water off Kennedy Quay during attempts to reach and recover the car.

Following a request for clarity from An Garda Síochána about how Blackrock Rowing Club came to be named in the evidence, RedFM News spoke with a senior Garda in the city who confirmed the inclusion of Blackrock Rowing Club in the evidence given to the Coroner’s Court was a mistake and should not have been included.

RedFM News is happy to confirm that Blackrock Rowing Club were not the organisers of an event taking place at the time and had no involvement in the events on the water off Kennedy Quay.

We thank Blackrock Rowing Club for their understanding in this matter and wish the club every success the future.
